The state of Washington was named after George Washington. The people of Washington are known as Washingtonians and even the state flag has the picture of George Washington on it. The state is famous for its beauty and sharp contrasts. The state features high mountains, sparkling coastal waters, semi-dessert and evergreen forests. There are also many islands in this area that employs a large fleet of ferries.

There are several significant manufacturing businesses in the state that manufacture jet aircraft through Boeing, computer software through Microsoft, Amazon.com, and Nintendo, electronics, biotechnology, aluminum, hard wood and lumber, mining and tourism. The state also uses hydroelectric power generation.

Washington is also a leading agricultural state with crop production ranked first in raspberries, peas, hops, spearmint oil, apples, sweet cherries, pears, peppermint oil, concord grapes, carrots and Niagara grapes. The state ranks second in the nation in lentils, potatoes, peas, apricots, grapes, asparagus and sweet corn. The state ranks third in tart cherries, prunes, plums and onions. The state ranks fourth in barley and trout and fifth in wheat, cranberries and strawberries.

Seattle is the largest city in Washington. There are five (and a few others in the area) Fortune 500 companies including Washington Mutual, Amazon.com, Nordstrom, Starbucks, Safeco Corporation, Nintendo of America, Cingular Wireless, Weyerhaeuser, PACCAR and T-Mobile.
