South Carolina is bounded by North Carolina and Georgia. South Carolina has four distinct regions with the lower part of the state being the Coastal Plain or the Lowlands. This area includes excellent farmland and the coast contains many salt marshes as well as natural ports. There are also a large number of bays in the area. West of the Coastal Plain is the Sand Hills Region and contains many old coastal dunes. The land is hilly, thin, stony clay and is not very suitable for farming. There is also a fall line in the Piedmont where the rivers drop to the coastal plain producing many waterfalls. The state also contains several national parks and historic sites.
The state has a large agricultural industry producing tobacco, poultry, cattle, dairy, soybeans and hogs. The state’s industrial outputs include textile goods, chemical products, paper products, machinery and tourism.
